The White Sox have traded Javier Vazquez & Boone
Logan to the Atlanta Braves. In return, the Sox get Tyler Flowers,
Brent Lillibridge, Jonathan Gilmore, & Santos Rodriguez. I like
this trade quite a bit. Tyler Flowers
has a chance to be a major offensive force. If he can stay behind the
plate, he has the ability to be a top 5 offensive catcher. His
performance in the AFL was outstanding (387/460/973 with 12 HR in only
20 games). This capped an already impressive season with Myrtle Beach
in high Class A (288/427/494). His numbers are even lower than they
otherwise might have been, as Myrtle Beach is a very tough place to hit.
Santos Rodriguez is basically a lottery ticket. He has
a great arm, but is so far from the majors that his career could go in
any number of directions. Lillibridge and Gilmore are likely no more
than bench players.
I have to admit, I'm not going to miss Vazquez all that
much. He had a fantastic arm, and was a workhorse. But his results
never lived up to his peripherals, and they haven't done so since his
days with the Expos. At some point, you have to look at results, and
his results were mediocre at best. However, he was a class act, and I
wish him all the best in Atlanta. As for Boone Logan, good riddance!
