Prospect Baseballs

I don’t know if any of these guys are going to blow up, but if they do I’ll be happy that I already have a signed baseball in my collection. I definitely don’t want another Luis Robert situation, where I end up having to get a second mortgage to be able to afford his autographs.

I don’t think Dylan Cease will be a star, but a Jon Garland type career wouldn’t be a shock. Michael Kopech and Andrew Vaughn both have the potential to be legit stars.

Luis Vizcaino 2005 World Series Baseball… Finally!!!

I have been trying to get a 2005 World Series baseball signed by Luis Vizcaino for years. Years ago, somebody got one signed for me in the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, they got it signed in blue sharpie. Then, he was scheduled to do signing at a show in Chicago earlier this year. Then COVID happened, and the show was canceled at the last minute.

All the while I was checking eBay regularly, to no avail. Until now. A couple of Vizcaino WS balls finally popped up, and I snagged one. Behold!

Vizcaino was the last player I needed. I have all 25 players that were on the World Series roster, as well as Frank Thomas. I’ve never felt the need to get people like Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson on WS baseballs, as they weren’t on the World Series roster.

Best Update EVER!!!

It’s been a while since my last post.  For that, I apologize.  To make it up to you, I present…

THE BEST POST EVER!

I’ll spare you any further buildup.  Here are my new Frank Thomas items… all 14 of them!

First, the multi-signed cards that I finally completed.

Not bad, huh?  How about a few “jumbo” cards, one of which is multi-signed?

Great stuff, right?  Let’s keep going!  How about a baseball?

Okay, just one baseball.  No big deal.  How about 3 16x20s?

16×20 not big enough for you?  Picky, aren’t you?  Fine, here is a 20×24, loaded with inscriptions!

Still not impressed?  Only care about the most premium items?  Well, I guess I can’t satisf… wait, hold on.  What’s this, a jersey?  An authentic World Series jersey?  With 6 inscriptions?  And PSA/DNA authentication?

Albert Belle Private Signing

At some point last year I took a bit of a break from collecting.  I would say that it lasted about 3 months.  To my horror, when I checked SCN for the first time after returning, I saw that I had JUST missed an Albert Belle private signing.  He was at the top of my wantlist, and I was very upset that I had missed it.

Well, Dana (Er21 on SCN) held another private signing with Albert this month.  I made sure to take advantage this time!  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get everything signed that I had planned.  I had two 16x20s and an 11×14 shipped straight to Dana from Adorama.  For the third time in the last couple of years, Adorama completely screwed me.  When Dana opened the package, the cardboard that the photos were sandwiched between had a crease down the middle.  Sure enough, the 16x20s had a crease down the middle as well.  Luckily, the 11×14 survived.  There wasn’t enough time to send replacement photos.  So the 16x20s, which were probably the items I most wanted signed, didn’t get signed.

That being said, I did get some nice autographs.  I got a mini helmet, baseball, 11×14, 8×10, 3 jumbo cards, and 6 cards signed.  I asked Dana to hold on to the 11×14, as he said he may be able to get some more items signed, in which case I would send more 16x20s and have them all sent back together.  I also hope to get a bat and/or jersey to send.

Here are the 12 items that have been returned thus far.  I’m not sure why 1989 Fleer cards always scan like that… the card looks great!

New Baseballs

Over the last week or two I have picked up some nice new baseballs.  There is one new baseball missing in this post, as it will be posted in post detailing the results of a recent private signing.

The first baseball comes courtesy of SCN member rcphi466.  He was kind enough to get it signed by Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo at a recent card show.  He didn’t even ask for anything in return.  Hopefully I’ll be able to return the favor someday.

The second baseball is signed by Mark Buehrle.  I already have quite a few baseballs signed by Buehrle (05 WS x2, Gold Glove, 05 AS, OMLB), but this is the first in my collection with the much nicer signature he used his first couple of years in the bigs.  I also got a VERY good deal on it.

The last baseball is also an upgrade.  I already have Aaron Rowand on a World Series baseball.  But it came from Elite Sports Marketing, and had their ugly hologram right above the World Series logo, where it couldn’t be hidden.  I removed the hologram, but it left a very faint outline where the hologram had been.  Aaron’s autograph was also TINY.  So I was thrilled to pick up this baseball for a very good price from Schwartz Sports.  The inscription is the icing on the cake.
