Eight Men Out Cast Autographs

Overtime promotions recently conducted a private signing with 8 members of the cast of the classic film Eight Men Out. They were able to get 7 of the actors that played the notorious titular players, but couldn’t convince David Strathairn to sign. Hopefully I’ll be able to get his autograph some day to complete the octet on the Pacific Eight Men Out cards. I’d also love to get Bill Irwin to sign his Eddie Collins card. But instead of moaning about who I didn’t get, let’s take a look at who I did get! Other than Charlie Sheen, these are my first autographs from all of these guys. I’m a big MCU fan, so I’m really excited to add a Michael Rooker autograph to the collection.

Sases for Sox: Rich Morales

Rich Morales was a part time player for the White Sox for 7 seasons in the late 60s and early 70s. He never hit much, but he played solid defense all across the infield. After his playing career ended, he spent some time as a scout for the Sox.

Thanks Mr. Morales!

Sases for Sox: Rob Mackowiak

Before there was Leury Garcia, there was Rob Mackowiak. Rob was a do-it-all utility guy for the White Sox in 2006-07. The only positions he didn’t play during his 8 year Big League career were shortstop and catcher. For a utility guy, he could also hit a bit.

I didn’t even know the pictured 2006 Upper Deck card existed until very recently. I knew about the Series 2 card showing him in a Sox uniform, but had no clue that the Series 1 card had a Sox logo. So I’m really happy to knock out another card for my Upper Deck project. Thanks for signing my cards Mr. Mackowiak!

Sases for Sox: Steve Cishek

Steve Cishek has been a very good relief pitcher for most of 12 Major League seasons. The only time he wasn’t good? His brief tenure on the South Side. He was (un)good for a 5.40 ERA in 20 innings for the Sox. Still, he is the rare successful, current Major Leaguer that signs his mail. So consider me a fan. Thanks Mr. Cishek!

Sases for Sox: Chuck Brinkman

For some reason I thought I already had some Chuck Brinkman autographs, so I never really prioritized sending to him. Turns out I was thinking of Ed Brinkman! For some reason I was missing his solo Topps cards, so I sent him two of his 1971 Topps rookie. Much to my surprise and delight, he included his own 1973 and 1974 Topps cards, as well as a small photo. Thanks Mr. Brinkman!

Lance Lynn Private Signing: Part 2

The USPS finally decided to deliver my Lance Lynn cards. Because he was $60 for cards, I decided to just get a rookie refractor and a White Sox card signed. I had a difficult time choosing between the handful of cards of Lynn in a White Sox uniform. It basically came down to Gypsy Queen, Topps Living, and Topps Now. I went with the Gypsy Queen.

Sases for Sox: Al Weis

Al Weis was a utility player for six seasons for the White Sox, but he is best known for his incredible performance for the Mets in the 1969 World Series. Weis, who had a .553 career OPS, slashed .455/.563/.727 in the Series, with multiple big hits. He had a legit case for World Series MVP, but lost out to Donn Clendenon, who also had a great series.

Sases for Sox: Lee Elia

Lee Elia is better known as a manager (who could forget his tirade as a Cubs manager), but he did play briefly for the Sox and Cubs in the 1960s. He has two Sox cards, including this sweet multiplayer card. In addition to signing my card, he also sent a small signed photo.
